This is good. This is Something we should celebrate!
1. Argentine Court Sentences Ex-Dictator for Operation Condor
By DEBORA REY and LUIS ANDRES HENAO May. 28, 2016
Associated Press
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Argentina's last dictator and 14 other
former military officials were sentenced Friday to prison for human
rights crimes committed during the Operation Condor conspiracy to hunt
down dissidents across South America and beyond.
Operation Condor was launched in the 1970s by six South American
dictators who used their secret police networks in a coordinated effort
to track down their opponents across borders and eliminate them. Some
leftist dissidents had sought refuge in neighboring countries only to be
detained as part of the state-sponsored terror campaign.
An Argentine court on Friday sentenced former junta leader Reynaldo
Bignone, 88, to 20 years in prison for being part of an illicit
association, kidnapping and abusing his powers in the forced
disappearance of more than 100 people. The former general who ruled
Argentina in 1982-1983 is already serving life sentences for multiple
human rights violations during the 1976-1983 dictatorship.
In the landmark trial, 14 other former military officials received
prison sentences of eight to 25 years for criminal association,
kidnapping and torture. They include Uruguayan army colonel, Manuel
Cordero Piacentini, who allegedly tortured prisoners inside Automotores
Orletti, the Buenos Aires repair shop where many captured leftists were
interrogated under orders from their home countries. Two of the accused
were absolved.
The sentences are seen as a milestone because they mark the first
time a court has proved that the criminal conspiracy called Operation
Condor was carried out by the U.S.-backed regimes in Chile, Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
DAKAR, Senegal — Hissène Habré, the former president of Chad,
was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of crimes
against humanity, torture and sex crimes on Monday, more than 20 years
after the start of a campaign to hold him accountable for the suffering
and death of tens of thousands of people.
Mr. Habré, who ruled Chad from 1982 to 1990, when he was deposed by the current president, Idriss Déby, stood trial before a special court in Senegal created to handle the case. Prosecutors had sought a life sentence, which he is expected to serve in Senegal.
“The
systematic torture at such a large scale was his way of governing,”
said Gberdao Gustave Kam, the presiding judge on a three-judge panel,
who read a summary of the verdict. “Hissène Habré showed no compassion
toward the victims or any regret about the massacres and rapes that were
committed.”
Because of the influence of the Rastafarian religion and
also conservative Christianity, Jamaica is an extremely homophobic country.
This is also true for other countries in the Caribbean, but particularly for
the Caribbean countries that are former British colonies.
This article is primary about Jamaica, but it applies to
many of the other countries in the Caribbean, even countries like The Bahamas,
where same-sex sex is decriminalized.
In Jamaica it is common to hear people openly calling for
gay men to be killed in ordinary conversations. At music performances in
Jamaica, particularly performances of reggae music, you are likely to hear
songs performed that openly call for gay men to be killed. Performers may call
out from the stage for gay men to be killed. Audiences may be asked to raise
their hands if they think that gay men should be killed.
Under Jamaican law, sex between two consenting adult men is illegal.
Conviction under Jamaica's anti gay laws could mean up to 10 years in prison at hard labor. The law is rarely enforced, but it makes all gay men in Jamaican unindicted
criminals.
Sex between consenting adult women is not outlawed in
Jamaica. But many Jamaicans think that it is. Lesbian and bisexual women are
subjected to the same persecution and violence as gay and bisexual men in
Jamaica.
The United States has been granting asylum to LGBT people
from Jamaica since 1994.
Given this background, high levels of violence are directed
at LGBT people in Jamaica and LGBT people are subject to persecution and
discrimination by all segments of Jamaican society, government, police,
education, churches. Human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch and
Amnesty International have documented the violence and abuse of LGBT people in
Jamaica for decades.
Jamaican homophobia and religion
The Rastafarian religion tends to take some parts of the bible
Old Testament literally. This is why Rastas don’t cut their hair or trim their
facial hair, or eat shrimp or pork. Some of the Rastafarian mansions even
follow Old Testament biblical laws about sequestration of women during
menstruation and during and after pregnancy. Although the Rastas tend to
emphasize the verses in the Old Testament that call for gay men to be killed,
they also tend to ignore verses that prohibit adultery. Conservative Christians in
Jamaica certainly agree with the Rastafarians about the treatment of LGBT
people.
Rastafarians say that you cannot be gay and Rastafarian.
Jamaican Christians are strongly influenced by the most
homophobic, anti LGBT Christian groups in the U.S. and, perhaps the U.K. Anti LGBT Christian evangelists often visit
Jamaica to proselytize their hate.
Jamaican homophobia and music
Jamaican music, particularly popular dancehall and reggae
music, promote and reinforce the very strong and pervasive homophobia in
Jamaica.
There are efforts to change Jamaica’s strongly anti gay
laws. But there is very strong resistance to change in Jamaica. It is going to
be a very long and difficult process for Jamaica, and for other homophobic
Caribbean countries, to begin to understand and accept lesbian, gay, bisexual
and transgender sexual orientations.

Thomas Glave - Ending Anti-Gay Violence in Jamaica
Many, many, many people have benefited from the work that Gordon Moore and his associates have done. If you have ever used a PC, cell phone, television set, sent an email, driven a car, had X-ray therapy, chemotherapy, any kind of medical treatment involving electric equipment or computer databases, and many other things. Any thing that uses microprocessor chips or semiconductor memory chips or any other kind of integrated circuit chips almost certainly uses inventions and was made with design and manufacturing processes developed by the Intel Corporation.
Gordon Moore is a genius, a top scientist, a brilliant manager and innovator, a great guy and also a philanthropist. Through his Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Gordon Moore and his wife, Betty, support many, many important projects that protect the Environment, promote Health, advance Science, and other things that are intended to benefit all of humankind.
Gordon Moore signed The Giving Pledge, a campaign that specifically focuses on billionaires (or those who would be
billionaires if not for their philanthropy) and was made public in 2010
by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates. They all pledge to give at least half of their fortunes to charity.
During his working career Gordon Moore was an outstanding leader of and innovator of applied research. The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation supports some very important basic research, such as the Thirty Meter Telescope on Maunakea in Hawaii.
Scientists You Must Know: Gordon Moore
Thirty Meter Telescope Overview
The Betty and Gordon Moore Foundation supports the National Public Radio program Science Friday.
On July 14th, 2015 Hawaii Governor David Ige signed the new emergency rule that prohibits
camping and restricts public access on Maunakea, the site of ongoing
protests against the Thirty Meter Telescope. See: Ige signs Mauna Kea ‘emergency rule’
Law enforcement officers with the state Department of Land and Natural
Resources gave notice to the self proclaimed protectors of Maunakea that they are in violation of the new emergency rule that is now in effect. See: VIDEO: DLNR Gives Third Notice On Mauna Kea
An organization that calls itself the "Lawful Hawaiian Government" has issued permits to the anti TMT protestors that allow them to stay on the mountain in violation of the DLNR emergency rule.
Henry Noa, as part of a group known as the "Restored Hawaiian Goverment," was the plaintiff in a case that went to the Hawaii Supreme Court. In that case, State v. Armitage, decided January 28, 2014, the Hawaii Supreme Court rejected arguments made by members of a Hawaiian sovereignty group that
they were exempt from state law because they are “citizens” subject to
the laws of the Hawaiian Kingdom. See: Hawaii Supreme Court rejects sovereignty defense
…individuals claiming to be citizens of an independent sovereign entity are not exempt from the state’s laws.
Some of the best scientific and academic minds of India, China, Canada
and Japan got together with some of the best scientific and academic minds of top U.S. universities
such as the California Institute of Technology and the University of
California. $US 1.4 billion is available to them for a major scientific
project.
They decided to build the Thirty Meter Telescope on
Maunakea in Hawaii.
And the proponents of TMT said:We’ll claim that what we want to do with the Thirty Meter Telescope is:
See “farther back in time to when the universe was just a
baby” to find “’first light’ objects.”
Investigate how the first galaxies formed.
Figure out how dark matter helped shape the universe.
Test if every galaxy has its own supermassive black hole.
Search for an "Earth twin."
"It is very likely that the scientific impact of TMT
will go far beyond what we envision today and TMT will enable discoveries that
we cannot anticipate,"
However, what some of the best scientific and academic minds of
India, China, Canada and Japan and some of the best scientificand academic minds of top U.S. universities
such as the California Institute of Technology and the University of California
REALLY want to do is to destroy the Native Hawaiian (Kanaka Maoli) religion and
culture!
(Some people actually think that one of goals of the TMT Corporation is to “dominate” “indigenous” people.)
Buju Banton’s Very
Controversial, Homophobic song “Boom Bye Bye”
Jamaican dancehall
performer Mark Myrie is known worldwide as “Buju Banton.”
The line ” . . . Boom bye bye / Inna batty bwoy head . . . ” is repeated at
least twelve times in the popular version of Buju Banton’s song “Boom Bye Bye.”
This line can be interpreted as saying “bullets to your head, gay man.” A few
seconds later there is a line that starts “shoot dem . . .” accompanied by
gunshot sounds. There can be little doubt that Mark Myrie (“Buju Banton”)
advocates the murder of gay men in “Boom Bye Bye.”
Sometime in August 2018, Buju Banton’s infamous song “Boom Bye Bye” will pass
the 26th anniversary of the date of its release in the U.S., the U.K. and the
world. This heinous but catchy song was sent as a 12 inch single to discos and
dance clubs all over the U.S. and the U.K. Many of these clubs were LGBT clubs
which played the song.
“Boom Bye Bye” calls for gay men to be shot in the head, shot with an Uzi,
have acid splashed on them and then to be burned like an old tire or necklaced.
“Boom Bye Bye” is very popular in Jamaica and the Caribbean, although it
cannot be played on Jamaican radio. The song has been very controversial over
the past 24 years in Canada, the U.S., the U.K. and countries in Europe where
LGBT people have gained some acceptance and legal protections.
The lyrics for “Boom Bye Bye” are posted here: Boom Bye Bye
Lyrics. If you would like to see the lyrics with a translation from the
Jamaican Patois look here: Dancehall
Dossier.
To understand the lyrics of “Boom Bye Bye,” you must know that “batty man”
and “batty bwoy” are derogatory terms for a gay man in Jamaican Patois.
Whenever you hear “batty bwoy” in “Boom Bye Bye” substitute any common
derogatory slur for “gay.” (The word “batty” in Jamaican Patois means “butt.” So
“batty man” means “butt man” and “batty bwoy” means “butt boy.”)
Listen for this line in the song: “Rude bwoy no promote no nasty man / Dem
haffi dead.” This is a line that clearly refers to gay men. “Dem haffi dead”
means “they [gays] have to die.” The line is repeated ten times in the song.
There are several early, live versions of “Boom Bye Bye,” performed by Buju
Banton, on YouTube, that contain the line, in clear English: “murder batty
bwoy.” This line is not in the 1992 international release of the song. (The
“murder batty bwoy” line is replaced by the line: “shoot di batty bwoy . . . ”
in the 1992 international release.) You can hear this “murder batty bwoy” line
on YouTube videos Buju And
Shabba Contreversy, Buju
Banton live in Jamaica 1992 (2/2), and Buju Banton "Boom Bye Bye" Song of Hate
“Boom Bye Bye” was almost immediately controversial in the U.S. and the U.K.
after it was released in August 1992. This YouTube video shows some of the
reaction: boom bye bye buju banton interview. Over all these years and after all of the criticism and
controversy over “Boom Bye Bye,” Buju Banton has never distanced himself from
the “kill LGBT” message of the song. In fact, he has defended the song.
The most popular version of “Boom Bye Bye” on YouTube now has more than 11,890,000 views. You can download the hateful “Boom Bye Bye” on Amazon and on
Apple’s iTunes.
Of the murder music artistes listed in the Dancehall
Dossier who have signed Reggae Compassionate Act agreements, only the group
T.O.K. has complied with their agreement.
Buju Banton’s Arrest and Convictions on Drug-Trafficking Conspiracy Charges
Buju Banton, whose real name is “Mark Myrie,” is currently serving a 10 year
term in U.S. federal custody after his conviction
in February 2011 and sentencing
in June 2011 on charges of “conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute
five kilograms (11 pounds) or more of cocaine and using a telephone to commit a
drug offense.” He is scheduled to be released on January 3rd, 2019 Mark Myrie – BOP Inmate Locator.
Buju Banton appealed
his 10 year sentence in December 2011. The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals
in Atlanta, Georgia, upheld Buju’s 10 year
sentence on June 21st, 2012. The appeals court also reinstated the firearm
charge conviction that had been thrown out at his original sentencing. On June
26th, 2013, U.S. District Judge James S. Moody set
aside Buju’s firearm charge once again because jury forewoman Terri Wright
is alleged to have done research about the firearm charge during the trial in
violation of the judge’s instructions to the jury. If charged with disobeying
the judge’s instructions, Terri Wright could face a
fine and up to six months in prison if found guilty of contempt. Buju
Banton continues to serve his 10 year sentence.
Despite what you may read elsewhere online, Buju’s other co-defendant, James
Jackson Mack, is scheduled to be released on 09-29-2019,
which is September 29th, 2019.
In July 2013, Judge James Moody threw out one of Banton’s charges based on
Wright’s conduct — but he didn’t declare a mistrial.
“This was error,” Ogletree argues in the new brief. “[Jury Forewoman Terri]
Wright’s misconduct tainted the entire trial, and a new trial should be granted
on all counts.”
In December 2014, Buju Banton's appeal for a new trial was heard by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta. The panel was unable to grant Buju a new trial.
There is an intense climate of homophobia and extreme violence against LGBT
people in Jamaica and the Caribbean. In Jamaica and most other Caribbean
countries, sex between consenting adult male same-sex couples is a felony. In
Jamaica, the sentence can be up to 10 years at hard labor. The law is rarely
enforced, but it essentially makes all gay men in Jamaica unindicted criminals.
Homophobia is extreme and pervasive in Jamaica with most Jamaicans supporting
the laws that criminalize adult male-to-male sex. In Jamaica, many take Leviticus 20:13
literally.
There are no laws in Jamaica that criminalize same-sex sex between consenting
adult women. But many Jamaicans think lesbian sex is criminalized, too.
Lesbians are subjected to discrimination, persecution, assaults and lynchings
just like gay men as well as “corrective rape.”
He [Buju Banton] went on record with a song. He made a public statement —
a statement of violence and murder against gays. If you go on record,
it’s the record unless you say something to change it. You can’t just
say, ‘That was year’s ago.’ We can’t just assume he’s different now
unless he says so. And he’s never come out and said the song was a
mistake, or that he now believes that killing gays is wrong. His
reluctance to do that says as much as anything.
